Accomplishments
- Worked 10 bills addressing healthcare, highway safety, and the environment through legislature in first session on State Assembly
- Championed revisions to smoking laws as San Mateo Councilmember to reduce second-hand smoke in the workplace years prior to State legislation
- Co-Sponsored San Mateo County’s Sustainable Building Policy
- Created Utility Sustainability Task Force to collaborate and strategize on energy use reduction
- Appointed by the Governor to serve on the California Air Resources Board
- Launched San Mateo County Citizens Academy, which instructs the public on the inner-workings of local government
- Helped open Safe Harbor, a year-round emergency homeless shelter in San Mateo County
- Worked to ensure the passage of Measure A, a ½-cent sales tax dedicated to public transportation
- Initiated San Mateo County’s Vision 2010 to encourage residents to help define a shared vision for the County’s future
- Created and implemented HOPE, San Mateo County’s ten-year plan to end homelessness
